Medici Madona , clay ..all but the head was destroyed in WWII
During WWII the Germans hid most of their museum works of art. They did not hide this model probably because they thought it was a fake. I guess, the Germans, forget they bought this model Haehnel in 1869. Haehnel sold it to the Kaiser Fredrick Museum in Berlin Germany. |
A bronze copy of the wax model is at the Louve Museum in Paris, France
| Michelangelo presented this bronze statuete to the Archbishop of Florence, Giovanni Salviati, and it remained in the family possession till 1830. |
